Title: Design and characterization of well-defined interfaces using innovative approaches in mass spectrometry and electrochemistry

In catalysis and energy-related systems, the chemical reactivity of analytes at surfaces is strongly influenced by their structural properties. To unravel the relationship between structure and activity at metal interfaces, it is essential to precisely control substrate composition and to sensitively characterize reaction products. In this talk, I will discuss two complementary approaches to address these challenges. First, I will discuss ion soft landing as a versatile technique for preparing non-conventional interfaces through the controlled deposition of mass-selected ions. Second, I will present a scanning electrochemical cell microscopy-mass spectrometry platform that enables detailed structural characterization of species generated at sub micrometer electrode interfaces. Together, these advances create exciting opportunities to investigate complex chemistry processes emerging from well-defined interfaces.
