Title: Catalytic methods for the construction of sulfur stereocenters
Location: WEL 2.122
Refreshments served at 3:15pm
Chiral sulfur functional groups have recently emerged at the forefront of medicinal chemistry, organic synthesis, and materials science. However, the divergent reactivities of chiral sulfur functionalities present formidable challenges for the development of generalizable asymmetric methods for the construction of a broad range of sulfur stereocenters. Our recent studies have resulted in the development of new catalytic reactions that establish mechanistically distinct approaches to diverse chiral sulfur functionalities by harnessing underexplored one-electron and two-electron reactivities of common sulfur(IV) and sulfur(VI) precursors. These advances underscore the synthetic potential of asymmetric catalytic methods based on unconventional organosulfur reactivities and chart a path for future exploration of the catalytic manifolds uncovered in the course of these studies.
