Title: Unveiling Structure and Reactivity in Complex Materials with Machine Intelligence and Automation
Location: WEL 2.122
Refreshments served at 3:15pm
Reactivity is shaped by structural complexity, yet we rarely access the full architectural information needed to explain why molecules and catalysts behave the way they do. In this talk, I will describe how machine learning and automation can help close this gap by unlocking the vast structural and mechanistic data already embedded in our microscopy and mass spectrometry measurements. I will discuss approaches that quantify the genuine activity of individual Pd/C particles in cross-coupling reactions and autonomous electron diffraction pipelines that deliver hands-free structural solutions across small molecules, materials, and biomacromolecules. Together, these developments expand the structural dimensions we can probe and interpret, opening paths to understand of reactivity that have long remained inaccessible to human-guided workflows.
