Biography
Dr. Brent Iverson has spent his independent research career working at the interface of Chemistry and Biology. He teaches popular undergraduate Organic Chemistry courses along with a Signature Course entitled “The Science of Happiness.” He has held numerous administrative positions at the University of Texas, including as Department Chair and for 9 years he served as the second Dean of the School of Undergraduate Studies (now called Undergraduate College). Dr. Iverson is the coauthor of a popular Organic Chemistry textbook that is now in its ninth edition (Cengage). He serves nationally as a member of the Board of Directors of Research Corporation for Science Advancement, the oldest foundation in the country dedicated to supporting academic science. He is also on the Board of Directors of Kesem, a national university-based program with 130 different chapters dedicated to serving the needs of the children of cancer patients.
Research
The Iverson laboratory focuses on the interdisciplinary design, study and evolution of large and complex molecular systems, combining elements of chemistry, molecular biology, medicine and materials science.
